On November 23, Ukraine and the world honor the memory of millions of innocent victims of the Holodomor-genocide of 1932-1933 and mass man-made famines of 1921-1923 and 1946-1947 - horrific crimes of the totalitarian Soviet regime, which are among the greatest catastrophes of mankind. 

The murder of millions of Ukrainians by starvation was a bloody embodiment of the centuries-long ideology of Russian imperialism, which is full of everlasting hatred for Ukraine and other countries and peoples, destroys entire national groups and constantly encroaches on other people's lands.

Russian imperialism and chauvinism are the same enemies of humanity as nazism, fascism and any other ideologies filled with hatred for human life, human rights and freedoms, national and cultural identity. 

According to the prominent Ukrainian artist and political activist Ivan Bahrianyi, "This artificially created genocide inflicted enormous damage on a nation that wanted nothing but freedom and independence”.

The world needs to learn about the Holodomor genocide in order to realize the true purpose of Russia's current war of aggression against Ukraine. In its essence, it is no different from the genocide of 1932-1933, and it is aimed at destroying the Ukrainian state and people. 

The aggressor continues to kill Ukrainians, carry out terrorist attacks on residential buildings, critical civilian infrastructure, industrial and agricultural facilities, deliberately destroy historical and cultural heritage, carry out forcible deportation of Ukrainian children, force Ukrainian citizens who remain in the temporarily occupied territories to adopt Russian citizenship through coercion and threats, and commit numerous other crimes and atrocities.

For decades, the Soviet and later Russian authorities carefully erased the memory of the Holodomor genocide, stubbornly denied historical facts, and tried to absolve themselves of responsibility for this crime.

Attempts to justify the deaths of millions of Ukrainians by saying that "there was a famine in many regions of the USSR" were and are extremely shameful. After all, it was only in Ukraine that the Soviet regime cordoned off villages suffering from hunger, condemning people to starvation. We categorically oppose any attempts to blur the responsibility for the genocide of the Ukrainian people or to lessen the significance of this crime.

The current destruction of the Holodomor genocide monuments in the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territories by the Russian occupiers is also indicative: it indicates guilt of those who deny their responsibility for this horrific crime.

Through the joint efforts of Ukraine's leadership, parliamentarians, scholars, the Ukrainian international community, our communities abroad, and diplomats, the official recognition of the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people continues to expand year after year. The truth is winning.

We express our gratitude to those countries that have already decided to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people and call on international partners to continue restoring historical justice by recognizing the Holodomor as genocide. We call for increased support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression, which is a continuation of the centuries-old Russian imperialism.

Together with the entire international community, with all countries and leaders who respect human life and international law, we must prove that justice for all past and present crimes of the Kremlin is inevitable. Moscow will not succeed in exterminating the Ukrainian people, just as it failed to do so ninety years ago.
