At the invitation of the Consulate-General of the Republic of Singapore in Guangzhou, Consul of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Guangzhou Serhii Chepurnyi attended an official reception marking the 61st anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Singapore.

The ceremony was opened by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Singapore to the People’s Republic of China Peter Tan Hai Chuan, who delivered welcoming remarks and travelled from Beijing especially to attend the event. Consul-General of the Republic of Singapore in Guangzhou Ms Cindy Wee also addressed the guests.

The theme of this year’s celebration was “Majulah Singapura, Go Beyond!”, which can be translated as “Onward Singapore! Go Beyond!” It embodies the Singaporean people’s enduring aspiration to move forward and encourages them to make greater efforts for the country’s development, support one another and care for the wider community.

Serhii Chepurnyi thanked the Ambassador and the Consul-General for the invitation, warmly congratulated them on Singapore’s National Day, and wished Singapore and its people continued success and prosperity. On behalf of the Consul General of Ukraine in Guangzhou, Serhii Kapuzo, he also expressed gratitude to the Republic of Singapore for its comprehensive support for Ukraine amid the Russian Federation’s ongoing full-scale aggression.

During the event, the Consul also held a number of working discussions with representatives of other diplomatic missions, focusing on topical issues of cooperation in various areas.
