On 24, 26 and 27 September 2026, diplomats of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Guangzhou attended matches of the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Finals held in Shenzhen. In particular, they attended Ukraine’s quarter-final tie against Belgium, its semi-final tie against Italy and the final against Czechia.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the People’s Republic of China Olexander Nechytaylo was among the distinguished guests attending the tournament.

With the assistance of the Embassy of Ukraine in the PRC and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Guangzhou, 80 Ukrainian citizens cheered for Team Ukraine from the stands. Most of them reside within the consular district of the Consulate General.

Encouraged by the passionate support of the Ukrainian community, Team Ukraine, featuring world-renowned tennis players Elina Svitolina and Anhelina Kalinina, defeated Belgium 2–1 and advanced to the semi-finals.

Thanks to the efforts of Ambassador of Ukraine Olexander Nechytaylo, the tournament organisers also provided the Ukrainian community in China with an opportunity to attend the subsequent ties and support the national team. In the semi-final, the Ukrainian players defeated defending champions Italy 2–0 and reached the Billie Jean King Cup final for the first time in the country’s history.

In the final, Team Ukraine was defeated 2–0 by Czechia and finished the tournament as runners-up.
